A Center for Psycho-Social Rehabilitation

Regd. No. 732

Prakruthi Charitable Foundation was established in the year 2008 by Dr. Kalpana Sringar &  Dr.Uday Shankar in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. It operates as a rehabilitation centre primarily serving patients suffering from Schizophrenia and various other mental illnesses as this has been one of the most neglected categories in the medical field.

Most of the patients are brought to the centre by volunteers and families. The centre has formed more than 100 such volunteers since its initiation. Despite the stigma attached to mental illness, people bring those suffering with such illnesses with no hesitation as Dr. Kalpana Sringar and her husband, Dr. Uday Shankar Araga, have given a part of their house for treatment purposes thereby creating a very homely and serene atmosphere.

The doctor couple take pains to ensure that patients are provided with the right environment, treatment, counseling and rehabilitation. Many of them have been taught various skills to earn their living. Some of them are paid a stipend to work at PCF .

Prakruthi Charitable Foundation at a Glance

Prakruthi Charitable Foundation, a rehabilitation centre primarily serving patients with mental illnesses, was established by Dr. Kalpana Sringar in 2008. The main aim of the foundation is to reduce the family burden of the key relatives and bring patients back into the normal stream of society. Dr. Sringar and her husband, Dr.Araga, have given a part of their own house for rehabilitation temporarily. The institution provides free medication, counseling and organizes an array of activities for the betterment of mental patients. The institution boasts several active trustees including renowned Ghazal Singer, Mr. Talat Aziz.
The trustees would like to expand the organisation and also start an ashram to accomodate  people who are stressed out and make them feel at home with a congenial environment. The plan is to help patients grow their own vegetables and fruits and also have a holistic approach to better living.

Counseling and Rehabilitation

One Step at a Time

Prakruthi Charitable Foundation provides medication and counseling to the distressed. The organisation also provides psycho-education to the patients as well as to the relatives of the patients. WE conduct a lot of Mental Awareness programmes to help people understand and identify psychiatric and psychological disorders at an early stage.  The organisation aims at removing the stigma attached to mental illness. Presently we have day-care facility for helping these patients to come out of their problems. Our aim is to help these disabled patients to become functional and earn for their livelihood.  We have rehabilitated about 2500 cases so far which comes to about 100 to 150 cases a year as it is a small place.  The number of cases have been increasing because of the pandemic and also for those who were infected with Covid 19. So far, our patients have been treated free of cost with medication so as to reduce the family burden on key relatives. Some patients are even given a stipend for working as volunteers at the centre.
